Asking Alexandria – “The Black” Album Review

Following the sudden departure of long time lead vocalist, Danny Worsnop, in January of 2015, Asking Alexandria released their latest album entitled, The Black, on March 25th, 2016 which features their new lead singer, Denis Stoff.

Leading up to the release of The Black, Asking Alexandria released a single entitled, I Won’t Give In, which formally introduced Denis Stoff into the fold as their new front man. Upon hearing the single, I wasn’t sure what to expect. In fact, I wasn’t a fan of the single. It just didn’t sit well with me at first. However, my opinion changed completely once The Black was officially released.

The Black has its own unique sound. I made this observation because of the impressive vocal range that Denis has. The similarites between Denis and Danny are obvious in some aspects. But, they still maintain their own individuality.

The tracklist goes as follows:

  • Let It Sleep
  • The Black
  • I Won’t Give In
  • Sometimes It Ends
  • The Lost Souls
  • Just a Slave to Rock ‘n Roll
  • Send Me Home
  • We’ll Be Ok
  • Here I Am
  • Gone
  • Undivided
  • Circled By the Wolves

Denis Stoff, and the rest of Asking Alexandria, really held it together for the duration of The Black. When I first listened to I Won’t Give In, my first impression ended up being a complete misjudgement. I’ll give The Black an 8.5 out of 10. It could be a bit heavier in some areas. Go listen to The Black and purchase it wherever music is sold.
